This sketchbook is a collection of sketches of the west coast of Canada that landscape artist, Mary Lou Crerar, has done over the last several years from the sea and from the land. Some were done from a sailboat, others from commercial craft and pleasure boats.
Contending with the speed of the boats, choppy waters and wind tugging at the paper could be trying. The sketches done from the shore were easier but mixing the watercolours and attempting to keep mixed washes had their risks as well, such as rising tides, rain, and wind.
The book includes maps of the areas where the paintings were made. Accompanying the images are notes from Crerar’s journal of her thoughts or what happened while she did the sketches on paper. The type of paper and paints used has also been noted.
The 17 images and 5 maps for this edition were chosen to illustrate the essence of West Coast scenes.
