This book, first published in 1945, is a fascinating personal account of the late U.S. Ambassador to Spain Carlton J. H. Hayes’ diplomatic mission in Spain during World War II, from May 1942 to January 1945. Whilst briefly touching on Spain’s internal affairs, the principal focus is firmly on American policy toward Spain during those three wartime years, and Spain’s response thereto.
