Aileen has lost her parents and she is now solely responsible for herself and her younger brother. She is jaded and no longer wants to look for love because she is not even sure if true love even exists. Or if it is attainable for her. Suitors are plenty, but she is afraid to give her heart and risk having it broken.

Quinn has recently become the Laird of the village, a huge responsibility for him yet all he can think about is the mysterious and beautiful girl he saw in the village. When he finally meets Aileen, he is immediately smitten and knows that she is the woman for him. But it is a bit harder to convince her of that fact.

With an impending war, and the chance that the Laird may have to go off and take the men from the village with him, Aileen is not sure if she should entertain a relationship with Quinn. But when he asks for her hand in marriage, the man will not take no for an answer, and Aileen knows that he is serious.

Will Aileen accept the proposal and let Quinn into her life and her heart? Will Quinn be able to balance his life as a Laird and his desire to be with the woman he loves and start a family?
