Andrew Lang was a Scottish prolific author, mostly known as a collector of folk and fairy tales.
“The Golden Blackbird” is a tale, entered in “The Green Fairy Book” collection. The story narrates about one great lord, who feels very ill and sends for doctors of every kind. None of them can give him any relief, except a foreign doctor, who declares that the Golden Blackbird alone could cure the sick man. The old man sends the eldest of his three sons for finding the magic bird, but after a few days of travelling the young man puts up at an inn, filled with merrymakers, and decides to not to waste more time hunting for this bird: if the father dies, he shall inherit his goods. After a few days the middle son follows brother’s suit, and only the third will finish the difficult search. What destiny is waiting for the youth and how will the story end? Read the tale to know it!
