The Ghoul: A Tale of Old Waubakosh relates the strange happenings in a small town on the shores of Lake Ontario. In the novel two women using the power of voodoo magic reanimate the body of a local farmer with devastating consequences. This zombie terrorizes a wooded park on the eastern edge of town leaving a trail of death and destruction. A young boy named Nathan and his zany dog, Longfellow, eventually become the focus of this undead creature leading to a violent and dramatic climax.

Set primarily in the 1970s, the novel transports the reader back to a simpler world, a world without cell phones, MP3 players, laptop computers, or the Internet.This world comes alive with many references to the popular culture of the time. The reader sees a town not only facing the fear of a murderous monster, but the challenge of change and urban sprawl.

Waubakosh is loosely based on a real town in southern Ontario. The colorful and eccentric citizens of this town provide the inspiration for the characters in the novel.
