The Diaspora, a standalone book, is the beginning of a series that will end up being more than half-a-dozen books. As it sits, Diaspora and its sequel, The Delphine, are the only two directly and immediately connected. The rest will be more Interstellar War than these.
Beginning in the mid 19th Century, an agenda is created to guide the future of human civilization on Earth. Copies of the agenda document are limited to seven ... the number of document creators ... as will be the ownership of said document, passed from each person to the next who is most likely able to further that agenda successfully.
All copies of the document are separate, and secrecy is sacrosanct. One can only be given the document by swearing ... sight unseen ... to keep the document under absolute security and secrecy. Once ownership has been established, failure to keep the oath sworn is punishable by death.
In The Diaspora, the reader follows, albeit briefly, the path of one of those copies up through current times. As it goes into the future, the reader is carried along with it as living in both the United States and on the Earth become more and more complicated.
Once people are forced to leave the Earth to start a water and iron mining facility on Ganymede ... things become complicated beyond human capacity to deal with it. ...both on Earth ... and off.
