The Day The Earth Caught Cold is an adventure in the old-fashioned tradition of the British apocalyptic thriller, in which a stiff upper lip is (mostly) maintained. What do you save, when it looks like everything will be lost? Can anyone be trusted, when the framework of law and order has gone? And if you fall in love on a journey, is it expediency or propinquity, or something more?

When the West Antarctic ice-sheet breaks up, a tipping point is reached for the Earth’s climate. Catriona Lindsay, a Scottish environmental scientist working on the Isle of Skye, is one of the first to realise something is wrong. To her dismay, Catriona is called to London (a city she doesn’t even like) to report on her findings. The next day, she wakes on the first day of June to find that it is snowing in London. The Earth really has caught cold.

Catriona finds herself thrown together with an ill-assorted group of strangers. A young Russian scientist with a penchant for Ribena drinks. A military liaison officer who thinks he has all the answers. And the British Prime Minister, who appears to have none (but is very good at wearing a silk scarf and looking decisive). And it is still snowing…
