Two poor families, Tuvache and Vallin, live in harmony but miserably in two neighboring cottages. One day, Mr and Mrs d'Hubieres , who can not have children , want to adopt a fee , the youngest son of Tuvache Charlot. The mother violently refuses the inhuman proposition to him.
