THE DISCOVERY: In 1947 a piece of equipment from the wreckage of an alien spacecraft is believed to put people into an artificially-induced trance-state which leaves them unconscious for purposes of abduction and experimentation.

THE EXPERIMENT: The device is activated in the tiny beach city of Bella Mar on the coast of California. When it goes operational everyone and everything within a fifteen-mile radius goes unconscious, and for the next twenty-four hours experimental surgery will be done on the un-knowing victims to find a way which will allow military forces to enter into the zone without going unconscious themselves.

THE GLITCH: When the alien device goes operational two people are discovered who have remained conscious. The first: Geri Keyes, a woman who had been in an automobile accident which left her in a vegetative state with no hope for recovery. The second: Mark McPherson, a young man born mentally handicapped who is incapable of speaking or making eye-contact with other people. When everyone else goes un conscious, Geri Keyes awakens from her vegetative state and Mark McPherson is no longer handicapped. Now they need to find out what has happened to Bella Mar, while being pursued by those behind the ordeal, who want to know why these two people are able to do what nobody else has been able to do before.
