Italian is considered one of the Romance languages, along with modern French, Spanish, Romanian, and Catalan among others. Romance languages are the descendants of the spoken form of Latin, which is also known as Vulgar Latin.  The word vulgar, in this instance, implies the common or the usual, typical, everyday speech of regular people. Today there are nearly 625 million people who speak Romance languages.

During the evolution of the Italian language, several dialects sprang up.  The regional dialects have many distinct qualities which distinguish them from one another. What is now known as the standard Italian has evolved from the Tuscan dialect it started from.

Italian is the predominately spoken language of Italy.  However, Italian is also widely spoken in southern Switzerland, San Marino, Sicily, northern Sardinia, and on the northeastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, as well as in North and South America.

Many say that learning Italian is easier than learning English. You will have to find that out yourself as a beginner. It might help you to remember that making mistakes is how one learns how to do it right. It’s really a matter of being able to roll your “r’s” properly.

In this book you will learn:

•         A short history of the Italian language
•         What to look for when choosing learning courses
•         Some basic Italian survival phrases to prepare you for travel
•         Italian verbs, conjugating Italian verbs, pronouncing Italian vowels and consonants, pronouncing Italian words and phonology

Learning Italian can be very useful to you. The key is to learn at your own pace so you don’t get frustrated. Start with the common words and phrases and then gradually progress to more advanced speech sounds and vocabulary until you can converse in Italian effortlessly.
