This is the story of an activist, a sculptor, and a seeker of peace. Born in England in the 1940s, Tom Coley grew up without a father into a world he felt had gone completely off the rails. His life path took him from cruise ships in the 60s, to mining, theatre and communal living villages in Australia in the 70s and 80s, on a search through Vietnam, India, Brazil and China for peace and the perfect sculpture, and eventually to the American Consulate in 2013 where he passed a wad of documents over the counter before slitting his own throat in his most heart-felt act of protest. Laughter Tears Peace is an enlightening, amusing and endearing account of life and the world by a humble, self-described ‘ageing activist’ and environmentalist, whose attempts to ‘save the world’ have resulted in one stunning and empowering life story.
