Although Knitilus Nautilus has been squirting around the ocean for 500 million years, he really takes umbrage at being called a "living fossil". It makes him feel like an aging socialite injected with preservatives & encased in silicon, & he strongly feels the term "well preserved" is equally insulting. As are any other comments that could be vaguely be considered age-ist. Or anti-archaeological. Or shell-bashing. Just keep him talking about the Jacques Cousteau Society & everything will be fine, just fine.

The examples were knit with US size 3 (3.25 mm) DPNs & various worsted weight wool yarns (circulars & Magic Loop can be substituted for DPNs), but virtually any yarn/needle combination would work as long as the gauge is nice and tight. They measure about 3 inches across the shell, and can literally be knit with scraps of yarn, so it’s a great stash buster. There are lots (seriously, LOTS) of short rows in the shaping, as well as a 3 needle join & 3 needle bind off, and lots of photos & helpful links are included of course.
