It was one Sunday, death was fast closing in on me, three weeks earlier I had taken critically ill. Nothing could help, there were pains all over my chest and stomach. As the mysterious sickness that had taken hold on my body grew with every passing day, even so was a powerful spiritual hunger on the inside of me.

I had become conscious of a strong, growing longing inside of me for the God who made all things, an experience I could in no way explain. I was 17 and no one in my pagan native home knew the Lord. But on this particular Sunday when it was apparent that I was not going to live to see another day, my mother came back from down town with the breaking news that she had heard about a powerful witch doctor who could cure sickness, but then she added, “I also know of a church where they pray for the sick and they get healed”. Without hesitation, I said, “take me to that church, Mother”!  I was excited to hear about a place where people talk with God
