Dating back to the Ming Dynasty, Gyotaku — the Japanese print making technique that takes an impression directly from the fish — evolved into a form of fine art, as well as, a research tool for ichthyologists logging the diversity of marine species. Boshu Nagase is a Master of Gyotaku, who has practised the technique for over 60 years. Now in his 90s, Master Nagase donated his last art works to the Museum national d'Histoire naturelle in France.

This e-book provides a look at the collection of the 65 donated artworks, describes the history of Gytotaku and the emergence of the indirect method that Master Nagase used to produce the brilliantly-colored prints. The book also includes a glimpse into Master Nagase's atelier.
