Why Make Your Own Garden?
It will improve your wellbeing…
Being in the garden is linked with being happier. It can be an activity to bring the whole family together and spend time outside. Although it might take a bit of time, eventually it will look amazing and will continue to give long term rewards. It is a hobby that will give you something special to talk about with to friends and neighbours, and you might be able to share produce with them.

It is good for the environment and promotes sustainability…
If you buy fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers these items need to be packed, transported, stored, repacked, transported, stored… you get the picture. This not only reduces the quality, but it also contributes to pollution in the environment. By growing some of your own you are helping reduce carbon emissions and physical pollution as well as cutting costs. Taking care of your garden is also great for the soil and air which means you are giving back to the environment.

It will give you exercise
Working the garden requires lifting, digging and moving around. All these activities add up as exercise which will make you feel satisfied and accomplished without going to the gym or doing what might typically be called exercise. This will make you fit, healthy and overall great.

It will give you access to fresh and nutritious foods
How nice would it be to walk into your garden to pick the ingredients for your meals? We are so disengaged from where food comes from that it would not be surprising if some people thought vegetables grew in the supermarket. If you grow your own vegetables, fruits and herbs you will really appreciate the food and will save you a few dollars in the process. Children will eat everything they grow, so this can be great for fussy eaters in the household.
