Growing up the daughter of the one of the world's most feared and respected vampire hunters has its upsides and its downsides.

One one hand, sixteen-year-old Catherine Briar can never let her guard down. She must always remain on the alert for potential danger, often in the form of those trying to get at her father though his most vulnerable side, his family. On the other hand, life is never dull. And for someone like Catherine--who craves excitement and even fear--that's not a bad thing.

When a new vampire comes into town, Catherine isn't sure what his intentions are. She's interested in him, and she seems to think the feeling is mutual, but then he tells her he's come for another reason entirely. Something big is brewing in town, he says, something deadly. Even her father, the legendary Ray Briar, is rattled by a creature they've never encountered before--known only as "black suits"--and wants to move the family out of harm's way.

But Catherine is sick of running from town to town every time a new threat pops up, and she's ready to make a stand of her own, with or without her father.
